Australian Open 2010 has been recognised by the Melbourne City Council at the annual Melbourne Awards, which were held at the Melbourne Town Hall on Sunday night.

The Grand Slam of Asia–Pacific outclassed a list of worthy nominees to take the Contribution to Melbourne’s Profile award in the Corporation category.

The award celebrates projects or activities that have built Melbourne’s reputation as a national centre for shopping, business, sport, entertainment and culture.

Diamonds take on Silver Ferns in Adelaide PDF Print E-mail

A leading Adelaide chef and national sports dietitian have teamed up with Australia’s largest pasta company to support the Australian Netball Diamonds ahead of their game against New Zealand later this month.

San Remo will host a special pasta dinner for the world champions at the Adelaide Zoo on Friday 27 August.

This is the third consecutive year that San Remo has held a pre-match dinner for the Diamonds in Adelaide.

The dinner precedes the Diamonds’ clash against the New Zealand Silver Ferns on Sunday 29 August, to be played at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre as part of the Holden Netball Test Series.

This is the last time that the Netball Diamonds will play the Silver Ferns on Australian soil before the Commonwealth Games.

International Stars headline the first Pro Tour event in Cairns PDF Print E-mail

A strong international field will spearhead an attack on Australian soil this week as the inaugural Cairns Tennis International gets underway at the brand new Cairns International Tennis Centre on Saturday.

New Zealander’s Daniel King-Turner and Sacha Jones will headline the event which will see tennis players from around the globe descend on Cairns from the 7-12 September.

Joining the top two seeds and No.1 New Zealand male and female players are international tennis stars from Great Britain, Turkey, Brazil, Japan, Thailand, Korea, China, Chinese-Taipei and India.
